Is French Hard to Learn

Is French Hard to Learn Is French Language Study Difficult? ChaptersFrench is a Grammatically Precise LanguageVerb Tenses and Conjugation in FrenchThe Rhythm and the Flow of FrenchPlacing and Speaking Accents CorrectlyTaking Things in ContextFor some people, embarking on a journey of learning a foreign language is a giddy adventure; for others, learning new language involves combating a great deal of stress and frustration, compounded with a deep reluctance to hit the books.Attitude plays a large part in one's ability to learn a second language. Some of the roadblocks we throw on the path to of motivation toward any endeavour are purely fictional. I have no proficiency  for languages, some might say. Or: I can barely speak English; how could I learn to speak French? And, the most decimating of all: what use would I have for speaking French? You would have to realise the many benefits of learning French language and culture in order to answer that question most thoroughly.Enough pop-psychology!Back to the main point: is learning languages, especi ally French, a tortuous ordeal to be avoided at all costs? We contend that learning how to speak French is challenging but enjoyable and â€" more surprisingly!, an easy endeavour that everyone can, and maybe should undertake! Here are a few reasons why fluency in French is easy to achieve...Like these aviators, French grammar demands exacting precision Source: Pixabay Credit Bluesnapbeginner level French vocabulary. However, there are some facets of  grammar in French that are substantially more difficult to grasp, such as grammatical gender. How does one divine whether an object should be masculine or feminine?Add to that,  word agreement: if the noun  in is feminine â€" has a la or une article; then the adjective must also be in feminine form.A white shirt would translate to une chemise blanche; but a white sweater would become un chandail blanc. Note the feminine and masculine adjective endings! Here, we give a touch of encouragement: French grammatical gender is much simpler for the English speaker to learn than in other languages, such as German! No need to search the Internet looking for French lessons in London  when you can head directly to Superprof...Verb Tenses and Conjugation in FrenchWhereas the English language has a total of 12 verb tenses, the French language has nearly double that number â€" all questions of mood aside. The good news is that you are not likely to need all of them at once, and some, not ever!Precluding French language skills beyond intermediate, you won't need the more difficult tenses at all â€" unless you are in a French immersion programme.Your French teachers have surely impressed upon you that the most important aspect to remember in using any verb tense is agreement. If the subject is feminine, the verb, where applicable, must have a feminine suffix.Je me suis lavée depicts a woman who has washed herself. If the writer were a man, there would not be an extra E at the end of the verb. J'ai mangé â€" I have eaten, is not genderis ed, no matter whether a man or a woman has eaten. Naturally, such agreements are paramount in reading and writing in French. The gender connotation does not change the word pronunciation â€" in these cases. There are nouns that do change form according to gender: mâitre versus maitresse â€" male and female teacher, for example. As for English speakers, so the native speaker of French: you will find irregular verbs in either language. We daresay the list of French irregular verbs is substantially shorter than the English one! And only a handful of French irregular verbs are used in conversational French; compared to about 200 English irregular verbs in daily use. Here are good French lessons you can take on Superprof.Spoken French flows much more smoothly than this rushing river! Source: Pixabay Credit: Gerald FriedrichFrench vocabulary needs no inflection to give meaning to its words. Instead, words are grouped into phonic units and delivered  in a unique rhythm. The words in the no un groups are spoken together quickly, with a rising tone; the verbal phrase with a falling tone and the prepositional phrase, if any, is treated to a rising-falling tone similar to the one used in Mandarin Chinese. It may take a while for any French learner to get used to that distinctive parlance. How long do you think it might take you to learn French? Placing and Speaking Accents CorrectlyWhat are those diacritical marks on some of the most common words in French? Why are they even used? And why do some Cs have a cedilla under them, and others don't? We don't need them at all in English, after all!In a surprisingly large number of cases, said accents are used to denote a now-absent S: étudiant, for example, or école. The Umlaut â€" two dots over a vowel are used to indicate that each vowel must be spoken separately: Noël, for example, or naïve.Beyond that, the issue of accents gets a bit more convoluted. The accent that looks like a tiny hat; as in forêt, can be used to distin guish between two like-written words: haler, meaning to haul in, and hâler â€" the verb to tan. Imagine getting the accents wrong on this word pair: gène meaning gene (as in genome); and gêne â€" to bother! How to use a Cedilla in La Langue FrançaiseThere! Did you see it? Under the letter C in the word meaning French? Failure to place a cedilla correctly results in the C sounding like K. The French rule approximates the English version of I before E: unless the C is followed by either E or I, you must apply the cedilla to obtain the S sound. Please! Don't ever call for a garcon (pronounced gar-kon)! You will get much better service from a garçon. Again, rules for accents and other marks apply more to reading and writing French than to listening comprehension or speaking French. However, with an exquisitely tuned ear, you may well hear the differences between accented homophones such as chaîne and chêne!How might a native French speaker interpret 'not on my watch'? Source: Pixa bay Credit: SplitshireTaking Things in ContextWhen you get right down to it, French and English are not so different: each has grammar rules, homophones and homographs; both languages conjugate verbs and have multiple tenses. Both languages require the attuned linguist to be aware of nuance â€" another effective French word! Nuance and context are closely related concepts in linguistics. Whereas the first is a subtle difference in meaning, the second represents finding meaning  through associated words and actions. Making use of not on my watch once more...If you see a man utter that phrase while running, panicked, to his bureau, on top of which lays his wristwatch, you may infer that he does not want something spilled on his watch. The action provides the context for the meaning of the phrase. On the other hand, whispering that same phrase could represent either a plea or a threat â€" that is nuance. From your French courses you will learn that the language is rife with examples of subtle nuance and elegant turns of phrase  that simply don't translate into our first language. Phrases whose true, complete meaning can only come to life if you can speak the French language more or less fluently. Do all of these reasons why you should learn French have you motivated to sign up for language courses? Once you discover how easy studying French really is, you might feel inspired to learn Russian, learn Spanish or even to learn Japanese! Wouldn't it be great to put polyglot on your resume?

Beginner Basics How to Teach Yourself Guitar

Beginner Basics How to Teach Yourself Guitar Suzy S. Getting started on guitar can be mystifying without a great teacher to guide you. Follow these tips from guitar teacher Jerry W. and  youll be on your way to playing the guitar So you want to teach yourself how to play guitar? You dream of playing your favorite song or gigging in a band. Youve bought a guitar and youre ready to start. But now what? Where should you begin? In this post I will walk you through making a plan to teach yourself guitar. I will cover the steps to developing your goals and making a plan. Determine Your Starting Point Your first step is to assess your current musical ability. Are you a complete musical beginner or do you already play another instrument? The most important factor to consider at this point is whether you already know how to read music. If you have previous musical background and read music then your task will be much easier and you will want to look for teaching materials (books, videos, blogs) that delve right into the actual techniques of playing the guitar and the unique characteristic of guitar music. If, however, you are a complete beginner, then you need to find teaching resources that take you step by step through reading music in addition to learning guitar. Determine Your Goals Once you know your starting point you need to determine your ending point. What do you hope to accomplish as a guitar player? Why do you want to teach yourself guitar? Do you want to simply strum along with your favorite song or play standard chords as you sing, or do you want to be able to play lead guitar and solo over the band? Are you interested in strumming rhythm on the acoustic guitar, rocking out on the electric, fingerpicking a folk tune or playing classical music? Although it is possible to become proficient in each of these areas, it is best and more reasonable to start with a simple clear and reachable goal. Determine Your Style The most important part of your goal setting is to determine your preferred guitar style. The first step in this is to choose between the three primary types of guitar: acoustic, electric and classical. Once you select the type of guitar I would recommend focusing on a specific style of music. There are a lot of resources out there for the guitar player and knowing what style you are looking for will help you to quickly narrow down your options. Also, the style of music you wish to play will help determine what music reading skills you need to have. You can strum to music by simply being able to read chord symbols, a lot of pop music is written in guitar tablature (tab) but to play classical guitar you will need to learn standard music notation. Make a Plan Now that you have a clear goal it is time to make a plan. Here are the primary steps to your plan: Find resources. Search the web for the best books, videos and articles on your chosen guitar style. Go to your nearest music store and look at their resources. Talk to the salesperson and ask them what will work best for your goals. If you know anyone who plays guitar, see what they use. There are a wealth of resources available so spend some time checking out the reviews and seeing which ones look best for helping you reach your goals. Set up a practice schedule. There is no substitute for practice. The amount of time you are willing and able to practice will have the greatest impact on your eventual success. It is best to have a specific time set aside. If you really want to reach your goal you will need to spend the time. If you dont schedule it, then it is all too easy to forget and allow other activities to crowd it out. Choose a time and stick with it.  Play with others. As soon as possible begin to play with others. The fun of making music together will encourage you to go back and practice some more. Also, more advanced musicians are often happy to offer pointers you can take back to the practice room. Work the Plan You have a goal. You have a plan. Now for the hard part. You need to work your plan. No amount of dreaming and no amount of planning will make up for the hard work of practicing and playing on a regular basis. If you want to teach yourself guitar then you will have to work hard. But if you stick with it, in a few weeks you will begin to see progress and soon you will have the pleasure of reaching your goal and the enjoyment of playing your favorite music on your guitar. Remember, you can only get so far teaching yourself guitar. Nothing beats private guitar lessons if you want to learn proper technique and see fast results! What They Dont Tell You About Becoming a Musician

What They Don’t Tell You About Becoming a Musician Sign up successful Early in high school, I decided to be a multi-instrumentalist. Saxophone has always been my “primary” instrument, but I play and teach many instruments. Like many 15-year-olds, I had the desire to try my hand at guitar. Having had solid experience with another instrument, it came to me very quickly, albeit self-taught. One day, I was in our high school music room playing a song I’d figured out on the guitar, and one of my friends heard me playing. “I didn’t know you played guitar!” he said. This was immediately followed by a request to join a garage band, help him with his bass playing, and write songs together. Whoa! Am I even capable of this? Well, I went for it, but as soon as I said yes, I felt the overwhelming anxiety of not being as virtuosic as I was falsely perceived to be. At this point, I had learned everything that I knew about guitar from a Walmart poster. I’m serious. Poster + guitar = now offering advice? I needed to learn some things and quick! I immediately started thinking, “Who do I know that plays guitar well?” Seeing a pattern here? No matter when we decide to give making music a try, someday, you’ll teach somebody something about music. Don’t be afraid of this; rather, rise to the challenge and let this be your inspiration to submerse yourself in thoughts and ideas that will in turn push you to the next level. For example, I’ve always been sort of a hobbyist in regards to guitar. I teach music for a living at a university, so guitar has always been an outlet instrument for me. I teach big bands, so now I have college-level jazz guitarists coming to me for advice. The best way for me to teach them was for me to pick up my guitar and put myself in their shoes. I’ve had great success teaching them, and they go on and on about how much more things seem to make sense. I’m just having fun playing guitar with them! Music is an art. This art of how to become a musician is passed down from generation to generation via friends, family, and mentors. On behalf of music teachers everywhere, welcome to the club! Carl S. teaches saxophone, music theory, piano, and more in Brookings, SD. Why College Student Debt Is Growing

Why College Student Debt Is Growing There is now more accumulated student loan debt than accumulated credit card debt for the first time in the United States, according to an article in the New York Times. Accumulated student loan debt will likely reach a trillion dollars this year, as more students are enrolling in colleges and borrowing government dollars. However, economists argue that this is actually a good sign and could boost the economy as students pay back loans with interest. They believe that its a healthy investment that will lead to higher earnings, unlike credit card debt, which only hurts consumers budgets, giving them less disposable income to put back into the economy. But, this increase also means that more college graduates will be repaying debts and repaying them longer. In 2008, two-thirds of bachelors recipients graduated with debt, compared to less than half in 1993. In 2010, the average student debt (for those who took out loans) was $24,000. This average has been rising consistently and even faster for students and graduates of for-profit colleges. In 2000, accumulated student debt was slightly under $200 billion and was barely a factor in overall household debt. Many expect student loan debts to increase rapidly in the next few years as tuition at public colleges rises because of tighter state budgets that will likely decrease their college funding. Also, it looks like Pell grants may be cut, which offer the largest amount of financial aid to low-income students. In the coming years, a lot of people will still be paying off their student loans when its time for their kids to go to college, said Mark Kantrowitz, the publisher of FinAid.org and Fastweb.com. Kantrowitz has compiled student debt estimates for federal and private loans. Increased debts could create larger, macro issues as well. People are now taking longer to transition from adolescence to adulthood, as they get married, buy homes and have children later on in life. Larger debts can only slow down this process. Yet, receiving a college degree still yields significantly higher returns even if student debt is incurred. In 2008, full-time employees working year round who had bachelors degrees earned a median of $55,700, which was $21,900 more than the median earnings for just high school graduates. Also, the unemployment rate was significantly lower for college grads. The Obama administration alleviated some of the pressures of student debt in 2009 as it made it easier for low-earning graduates to get out of debt. It created an income-based repayment plan for students that also forgives remaining student debt after 25 years for those who put at least 15 percent of their income toward their debt consistently. Those who work in public service get debt forgiveness after 10 years.

Sure, this doesn’t mean that kick-boxing is better than other sports â€" obviously. But it sure does offer perhaps the best workout, with the most drastic effect on your health and fitness.Yet, the important thing about kickboxing classes is that they are precisely not just a full body workout. Or, rather, they are â€" but only if we consider that our body also includes our mind.Much more so than many aerobic activities â€" from simple running to Zumba, from tennis to swimming â€" kickboxing focuses your emotions, your concentration, and your confidence. And that’s because it is inherently social. In kickboxing, you are engaged in a real, full contact, physical battle â€" and that’s not only going to sharpen your muscle groups but sharpen your mind and your social skills as well. So, let’s dive in â€" and see how you can improve your health through kickboxing.  And once you are finished, check out the different types of kickboxing. Kickboxing is really excellent exerciseSo, What are the Health Benefits of Kickboxing?Whilst it is fundamentally a false distinction, we’re going to divide the benefits of kickboxing into two separate categories: the health benefits for your body and the health benefits for your mind.We say this is fundamentally false for a simple reason: those things that will benefit your body will inevitably benefit your mind too. Your mind and body are â€" of course â€" inextricably linked. And, whilst the majority of us know the excellent feeling that comes with exercise, those of us that don’t should. The greatest benefit of exercise â€" from a kickboxing class to any sort of cardio workout, interval training, or jogging â€" is that it makes you feel great. And it’s this feeling that is responsible for many of the health benefits of sport for your mind.Sitting around at your computer is one thing. But humans were made to move.Find out the biggest names in kickboxing!Shed Calories. Like, Lo ts of Calories. When people think about the health benefits of exercise, they usually think about how many calories they are going to burn. And whilst this approach has its limitations, it gives you a great idea of the amount of physical work you will be doing whilst exercising.Experts say that, when you are doing fitness kickboxing, you can expect to burn, on average, some four to five hundred calories an hour. And this can increase to about nine hundred if you are going particularly hard.Factor in the fact that, after your boxing workout, you will be burning a higher rate of calories throughout the day, you’ll be burning really a lot. Train at kickboxing and see your health improveTone Your Muscles â€" All Over Your Body.Kickboxing uses all parts of your body. Each combination of jab, punch and kick works a different part of your body.Kickboxing is not just about your arms and your legs. Each of your punches will engage muscles in your shoulders and back, whilst every kick will work on your abs and your glutes too. This is why kickboxers look so ripped. And you can tone up and sculpt your muscles too.Improve Your Balance. In 2012, scientists undertook a study into the benefits of kickboxing for people with multiple sclerosis. The results were pretty amazing â€" showing an improved balance across the board.Kickboxing improves your balance for two reasons. Firstly, it builds the muscles in your lower body â€" which, obviously, supports you as you move. But, secondly, it also develops your awareness of your body â€" through footwork and controlled movements â€" which means greater muscular control.Work on Your Cardio.C ardio â€" short for cardiovascular â€" is a type of exercise which develops the strength of your heart and your respiration system. Given that cardio exercise is also that which burns most calories, people think that that calories burned is the measure of effective cardio exercise. It isn’t.A healthy heart and lungs are essential for a healthy body through life â€" cutting the risk of heart disease and respiratory problems.Kickboxing is excellent at getting these organs into shape.Develop Endurance and Stamina.Besides the inherent benefits of a healthy heart, cardio enables the rest of your body to receive the energy, nutrients, and oxygen it needs. When the levels of these are optimal, your stamina â€" your ability to endure physical work for longer â€" is improved dramatically.By developing your cardio, kickboxing allows your body to exercise more, be active for longer, and to be comfortable with that. The health benefits of kickboxing can't be overstatedAnd the Benefits of Kickboxing for Your Mind? So, we’ve discussed the benefits of kickboxing for your physique. Let’s turn now to your mind.Health is not all about the physical. Rather, you’ll find that the healthiest people have the healthiest mind too.Reduce Stress â€" and Release Emotional Tension.Punching and kicking is not just about fat burning or fitness training. No. Rather, the instinctive element of these actions is in the fact of their implicit aggression. These actions relieve stress. Besides the physical, aerobic exercise â€" which is a natural stress relief in itself â€" the aggression that you can channel through kickboxing is unparalleled in pretty much any other sport.Take out the frustration that you feel in life on a punch bag â€" and feel the emotional release.Focus and Concentrate Better. The point about martial arts, however, is not that they are just a string of random punches and strikes. Rather, sports l ike kickboxing require poise, elegance, and precision â€" qualities which require the height of concentration and attention. When kickboxing, then, you will be thinking about your movements; you will be focusing on their accuracy and grace. In this way, you’ll be improving your ability to concentrate in all fields when you are outside of your gym too.Build Your Confidence â€" and Self-Esteem.With good exercise comes a body of which you can proud. And with such a body, your confidence â€" and self-esteem â€" will flourish. This is one of the most important health benefits of kickboxing. Because, by confidence, we do not mean vanity or excessive pride. Rather, confidence comes with the knowledge that you’d be able to defend yourself if required, with the appreciation that you have a new skill, with the sense that you are doing something great for yourself.Give it a try; it feels great.Achieve Goals.Part of this is in your ability to set and to meet goals. By having goals set â€" and by being able to achieve them â€" you get into a really positive feedback loop in which you are feel you are making great progress.Winning a fight in a ring or being able to squat three hundred times â€" all of this will improve your confidence even further as you reach your milestones.Foster New Relationships. In kickboxing, it’s not just about you. Whether you are in a gym class or you are sparring with a partner, kickboxing is primarily social. And there is no better place to make strong relationships than when you are dripping with sweat and beating the hell out of someone.Yes, this is a health benefit. Because great, meaningful social relationships improve your mental health and your overall wellbeing.Improve Your Mental Health.Talking of mental health, this is perhaps the crucial part of this second section. Exercise makes you feel good â€" and it sets the conditions for a really healthy mindset and outlook on life, as well as for healthy thought processes. This can’t be str essed enough!Interested in the rules of kickboxing? We bet you are.

(Source: TheAndrasBarta)Since there’s everything from charitable organisations offering support to e-learning platforms, let’s have a look at what they do.Specialised OrganisationsThese organisations make up a significant part of the market.  There are two ways for tutoring to work: Either the family hires a private tutor directly and acts as their employer or they contact a company that provides them with a tutor and the family acts as a customer. There are tutoring groups, businesses, self-employed tutors, and public education groups offering help to struggling students.  Usually, students will find a tutor through a company.  Most of the time, companies will find tutors for the customer and offer them private tutorials at their home or homework help in a specific place, like a library, for example. Some even offer online tutoring services.  In this case, the family entrusts the company with the administration and finding the right tutors. You should know that there are also charitable organisations offering tutoring  services, too.  These are useful for families with limited budgets who otherwise wouldn’t be able to pay for private tutorials. Finally, you can also find plenty of tutors who are working for themselves.Platforms Connecting Tutors to StudentsThere are platforms that help students find tutors and vice versa. With more and more tutors deciding to work for themselves, these types of platforms have become more important.Sites such as Superprof were created for this very reason.  In just a few clicks, you can find academic support for a multitude of different subjects including:Maths (algebra, calculus, trigonometry, etc.)Foreign languages such as French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, etc.Science including physics, chemistry, biology, etc.EnglishOne on one refresher classesExam or test prepEtc.The goal is to help students to easily find a tutor near them who can help them with a subject they’re struggling with, for example.Undeclared WorkThere are still tutors around who are working cash-in-hand and not declaring their earnings.  It’s hugely important that tutors declare their earnings to HMRC and pay the appropriate taxes and National Insurance contributions.Crime doesn't pay. Such as not going to prison...Why Is the Academic Support Market Growing?Education is a quick way to combat unemployment and most parents know this. This is why the academic support market continues to grow.Parents want to help their children get the best possible grades and exam results at every stage of their education. From SATs, GCSEs, A Levels, and their degree. There are two main tendencies when it comes to private tutorials:The demand for academic support grows around the start of a new academic year. There’s also a spike in demand around March. The offering is also changing.  Students in primary school, secondary school, college, sixth form, and university can easily find academic resources for learning. There are plenty of websites helping students get over academic difficulties. This allows them to get over problems in maths or foreign languages from the comfort of their own home. We’re starting to see the dem ocratisation of the market.Previously, families were forced to work with massive home tutoring companies (which often charged a fortune) if they wanted to find a private tutor. Nowadays, you can find private tutors in just a few clicks. Thus, you can find tutors to help with:Catching upUnderstanding why students are failingRefresher classesHomework helpAchieving high gradesAdditionally, you can find them for competitive rates. The Big Names in the Academic Support MarketGeneral Organisations You Should KnowFor the most part, academic support companies offer a huge variety of different courses and levels. There are some really big academic support companies. (Source: Pexels)A lot of students get in touch with these companies and groups to find:Maths tutorials, Spanish tutorials, philosophy tutorials, etc.Academic coachingHelp with applying to universitiesTutorials for study skillsWhether it’s during the summer holidays or during the school term, these types of companies can help stude nts find tutors and take care of the administration.Specific GroupsBig tutoring companies offer a variety of solutions depending on what students need to learn.  There are a few companies that may come to mind and some offer video tutorials and courses for professionals, for example.Certain companies focus on learning languages and organising trips abroad for students. This is a very popular type of tuition.  Other platforms help students studying A Levels. In some cases, students are encouraged to work with different tutors in order to match up their learning style with the right pedagogy. These organisations tend to provide academic guidance for students as well, helping them choose the right university courses to apply to, etc.SuperprofIn addition to the big players who’ve been around forever, there are also plenty of newer groups when it comes to one on one tutoring, academic tutoring, and bespoke instruction.Superprof is the largest community of tutors online (1 million as of 2016).  Tutors can create an account and profile explaining what type of tuition they offer and we help the students find the online tutor or home tutor that meets their needs. When the National Education System Fails, What Is an Effective Solution? There are some worrying statistics when it comes to education and pupils falling behind.Children can learn more effectively with private tutors. (Source: rawpixel)Apparently, one in eight secondary schools in the UK is failing. This means 12.5% of schools aren’t up to scratch!  This is made more alarming when you think that this basically accounts for over 300,000 students in England alone! There are huge inequalities when it comes to education.  A-level pass rates were at their lowest for eight years. Of course, it seems that every year there’s a whole heap of controversy surrounding pass rates. If too many students pass, the exams are too easy, if too many fail, then the students or the schools are to blame. That said, there are studen ts who genuinely struggle at school, especially when there are problems at home such as a divorce or bereavement or when students have special educational needs. These problems are compounded when you have overworked teachers trying to teach larger and larger groups of students.  There are a few ways to address these issues. Similarly, there are definitely teachers in schools going above and beyond to help. However, they can’t do everything and even the best teachers may fall short when the education system fails them.  We can now use digital resources to bring together students and educators. In a few years, all this work will bear fruit. Now you know a bit more about the academic support market and how it can help you achieve academic success. Whether you're looking for an English tutor, chemistry tutor, or even writing tutors, you're bound to be able to find the right person. Are you a tutor or a student looking for an educator?Don’t hesitate to look for academic support classes o r tutorials. There are a lot of benefits.  If you're interested in teaching or becoming a tutor, then you could start looking for tutoring jobs. More and more people are choosing to be tutored privately and the best tutors will have no problem finding students. You can create your profile on Superprof and start offering one on tutorials, tutorials over webcam, or group tutorials. Generally speaking, the latter costs the most per hour (for the student) and the latter costs less per student but can earn the tutor much more.

Prasannas Volunteer Drama Workshop!

Prasanna's Volunteer Drama Workshop! Prasanna P is an experienced actor starring in major stage productions, TV shows and film. Recently Prasanna has taken a few hours a week from his busy schedule to volunteer for The Tutorfair Foundation, helping the 6th Formers at Pimlico Academy develop their Drama skills. Prasanna easily built rapport with the students, providing advice that they were able to act upon immediately. Lisa D - Drama Teacher at Pimlico Academy said, “Prasanna is just one of life’s nice guys. The advice he is giving is something the students can really relate to. He thinks about it on their level, which is great.”  The students were all working on various pieces for their GCSE drama, requiring a differentiated approach to the tutoring. Prasanna delivered quality support to each student and group, depending on the requirements of the piece. Lanta and Amy said “He helped us with our scene, which has improved a lot since he’s started helping! He gave the scene a better style making it much more believable” Being able to strike a chord with the students has certainly helped Prasanna ga in their respect. Lisa added, “The students aren’t struck particularly [by the fact he’s currently on TV] but they are very receptive to good advice, which is what he gives” You can tell by the  way the way the students listen and respond that they value Prasnana’s input. Tashan and Daniela made the following remarks; “He helped us with creative techniques and we have definitely gained in confidence” and “he accepts what we have to say. He sticks to our ideas allowing us to develop them, rather than giving us his own.” It really is an inspiring sight to see so many students engaged and clearly benefitting from the help of a volunteer. When asked about the experience Prasanna has this to say: “The students were hard-working and imaginative in their scenes and improvisations. They responded brilliantly to new possibilities in their work and they were a pleasure to teach.”
